I have not been able to follow the discussions on this forum. I am sorry about it.
But now I need some help. I am planing to start soon a Linux course titled: “Installing Apps on a Linux Server”.
More details about it here: installing-apps-on-linux-server.md
I hope that you will find it interesting and you will recommend it to people who might be interested. I don’t use Google or FB for advertisement, I hope that social networks (friends) will spread the word about it to any potential students.
Let me know what you think about it. Any suggestions are also welcome (about the time, schedule, price, topics, etc.)
It’s great to hear from you again ! Your course “Installing Apps on a Linux Server” sounds exciting and could be very interesting for anyone looking to dive into Linux administration.
I have a few questions and suggestions about it:
Will there be recommendations for specific VPS providers, or are participants free to choose their own? And do you have any tips on how to register a domain cost-effectively?
The mini-projects are a great idea, especially for better understanding the system. Perhaps you could suggest a larger, final project at the end of the course that participants can work on independently as practice.
I will demonstrate (on the first few hours) how to get a VPS from Hetzner, because this is what I use. If the participants are complete beginners on cloud, they may just follow my example. But if they have some experience with VPS-s, they may choose whatever they want, it doesn’t matter.
I don’t have anything in mind right now, but maybe I can come up with something until then. Any suggestions are welcome
Thank you dashamir, the nextcloud document is really interesting with all of its details.
My question is: Will participants receive a “certificate” at the end, if they participated 80 % of the course? It could be usefull for work. I personally missed this at the last linux course 2 years ago.
The second question, will I get a invoice I can present to my employer for payment/refund?
It is not difficult to reward participants a certificate of participation/accomplishment, but the problem is: will it be worthy for your employer? Because I don’t represent a registered educational institution, or something like that.
In Linux, usually you get a professional certificate after you pass a test or exam, not after you complete a course. There are several such certificates, all of them are worthy (in my opinion).
For example I have received “LinuxFoundation Certified SysAdmin” and “LinuxFoundation Certified Engineer” a few years ago.
Again, I can provide you an invoice, but it is as good as an invoice that you can generate yourself (meaning that your employer has no way of verifying its authenticity, unless asking me directly).
Maybe your bank can provide you with a payment receipt, and you can use this one. Or I can try to get such a receipt from my bank (upon receiving the payment for the course), and send it to you.
I just signed up and am looking forward to the course, even though my English is not good enough for communication. But I am used to reading texts in technical English. So far, this has worked wonderfully with your texts.
I chose the bank transfer as my payment method, and I have two suggestions:
Not everyone transfers money with their cell phone or is at a bank whose app can process the QR code. Simply offer the content of the QR code in plain text.
My bank absolutely wanted the bank’s country code. I tried it first with Albania and only after the error message did I take Belgium out of the IBAN. You can’t possibly take into account all the apps of all the banks, so I’ll write it here so that others get it right the first time.
Thanks a lot Franz! I hope you will enjoy it and find it useful.
My spoken English is not excellent, but I hope that we will manage to understand each-other.
By the way, here are the recordings from the current course (in case someone is interested to have a look):
